Itinerary

Day 1

Lusaka

After arrival in Lusaka transfer to our lodge in the outskirt of town. Dinner in the restaurant (own expense).

Overnight in chalets at Wilddog Lodge (-/-/-).

 

Days 2 and 3

Lower Zambezi National Park

It is about a 4 hour’s drive to our next destination, Kasaka River Lodge. In the afternoon we do a game drive in the Chongwe River area for sundowners.

The next day we will spend most of the day in the National Park to explore the interesting fauna and flora of the Zambezi valley.

We overnight in the luxury tents at Kasaka River Lodge (B/L/D)

 

Days 4 and 5

Lower Zambezi River

We do a last game drive in the park before we embark for our exploration of the Zambezi River in motorized rafts.

The current slowly takes us downstream while we enjoy the rich wildlife passing by.  

We camp wild on an island in the river.

The next day we also spend in our inflatable rafts, exploring smaller channels and drifting down towards our next camp. We spend the night in the beautiful Mupata Gorge on one of the many sandbanks. (2 x B/L/D)

Day 6

Lusaka

We cover the last stretch to our take-out point at the confluence of the Laungwa River. The vehicles will be waiting for us here. We pack and head off to Lusaka where we arrive late afternoon.

Overnight in chalets at Wilddog Lodge or Pioneer Camp. Dinner is served in the restaurant. (B/L/-)

Days 7 and 8

Kafue National Park - Busanga Plains

Transfer to Kafue NP, remote and wild, with a size of close to 23.000 square km one of the largest in the world.

On day 8 we will do a long game drive in the famous Busanga Plains in the North-West of the Kafue NP – this part of the park is only accessible during a few months of the year and always impresses with spectacular sightings and landscape.

Camping at Moshi Camp (2x FB).

Day 9

Kafue National Park

From Moshi Camp we drive back through the park to the central area of the Kafue National Park and set up our tents at Roy’s Camp on the banks of the Kafue River. We will prepare everything for the river excursions for the next days. Camping at Roy’s Camp (FB).

 

Days 10 and 11

Exploring the Kafue River

Kafue river is very picturesque with granite boulders, Makalani Palms (Real Fan Palm) and Waterberry trees shaping the beautiful river frontage. We drift down in our inflatable rafts, passing many islands on the way and rafting through numerous small rapids.

We camp the night on an island in the Kafue River. The second night will be spent on the campsite of Kaingu Lodge. (B/L/D).

 

Day 12

Lake Ithezi Thezi

Kaingu Lodge is our take-out point. From here we head into the southern section of the park and camp next to the Ithezi-Thezi Lake at Hippo Bay Campsite. In the afternoon we explore the edge of the lake on a game drive.

Day 13

Nanzhilla Plains

We do a last game drive to see the prolific game and birdlife of the area. We pack up camp and head a little bit more south to the Nanzhila Plains, where we set up camp at Hornbill Campsite. In the afternoon we have time to explore this area on a game drive.

Day 14

Mazabuka

We leave the National Park and drive to Mazabuka, ‘The Sweetest Town in Zambia’ where sugar cane is grown on big farms. We stay overnight at Kushiya Farm in the Tented Luxury Camp.

Days 15 and 16

Lake Kariba - Houseboat

Early in the morning we carry on to Lake Kariba, where we board our home for the next 2 days: the comfortable House Boat ‘Galloping Waters’. Time to relax and enjoy the scenery and serenity of the lake. (2x FB).

 

Day 17

Lusaka

Transfer back to Lusaka and overnight at Wilddog Lodge or Pioneer Camp. Dinner in the restaurant. (B/L/-).

Day 18

Departure

Transfer to Lusaka Airport and departure (B/-/.)

All transfers (inclusive airport transfer in Livingstone on the first and last day of program)
Competent English-speaking guide and a helper/cook
All camping equipment (except sleeping bag and pillow), big tents (1.80 m height) with stretcher,  high density mattress and mattress-cover.
